USGA Handicap Explainer Series from Texas Golf Association: Handicap Allowances

The Handicap Explainer Series is a collection of short videos created by the USGA to help golfers get the most out of their Handicap Index®.

In this episode, the USGA explains Handicap Allowances and why they are recommended for various formats of play. A handicap allowance is the percentage of a Course Handicap™ recommended to create equity based on the format of play.

Since higher-handicap players typically have more variance in their scores and an increased potential to shoot lower net scores, when full Course Handicaps are used in certain formats, players with lower Course Handicaps are generally at a disadvantage. By taking a percentage of Course Handicap, the higher handicap players are impacted more, which brings the expected scores for all players or teams to a more consistent level. Handicap allowances are mainly applied in team formats, where the combination of players can produce lower scores compared to other teams.

Let’s talk Pace of Play!  Golfers of all skill levels should be able to get around the golf course at a reasonable pace and not hold up groups behind you.  Playing golf at a better pace is not about hurrying up or rushing around the course. It is simply about being more efficient with your valuable time, as well as everyone else’s. Adopting this tip of the month and not being afraid to share it with your fellow players will ultimately add enjoyment to your golf experience.

Minimize your time on the tee, plan your shot before getting to your ball, keep your routine, and aim to play in 20 seconds or less. On the tee it is usually acceptable for players to “hit when ready.” You can also save time by…

The Shamrock 3 Club Scramble, our February club tournament, presented competitors a unique challenge by taking on the course with only 3 golf clubs in their bag!    Not to be defeated by the lack of tools, two teams came in at 6 under 66 with Landon Moore and Taylor Cussimanio taking 1st place in a scorecard playoff over Dennis Sokol and Rithy Khem.

Taylor and Landon take home $85 merchandise gift cards from Crystal Falls Golf Club

On the Net side, Cliff Ellis and Cody Price earned the win with a -7, 65.

The top 5 teams Overall and Net all earned a gift card, in addition to those winning Skins and Net Skins.   In total, participants took home $2,040 in merchandise gift cards with everyone climbing up the board with 2025 Crystal Cup Season Points.  Click Here to see the full leaderboard.

Join the fun at our next club tournament on April 14 when we set the course for 18 par 3 holes in preparation for the Par 3 Challenge golf tournament.  Click Here to learn more.
